Sophie Radcliffe is currently the Musical Director of the Aberdeen Chorus.
Dorothy Main and Alison Soutar are our Assistant Directors.
Sophie has been a member of the chorus since the age of 14 and is now in her 13th year of membership.
With a degree in music from Aberdeen University and having completed the Sweet Adelines Director Certification Program, Sophie joined the directing team as Co-Director with Gwen Topp in January 2015.
As well as directing Aberdeen Chorus, Sophie also sings with Forth Valley Chorus in Edinburgh and has very recently become a member of the Vocal Matrix Chorus which is based in Greenville, South Carolina, after spending three months in the USA.
Sophie held a position on Region 31’s Regional Management Team acting as Directors Coordinator up until October 2017 and is currently serving on the International Published Music Sales & Marketability Committee within Sweet Adelines. Since May 2017, she has also been a member of the Public Domain Music Search International Task Force.
In September 2017, Sophie was accepted as a Sweet Adelines International Candidate Judge in the Showmanship category and is currently enrolled in the International Judging Program.
Sophie became the sole front-line Director in January 2018 following Gwen’s retirement after twenty years directing the chorus.
Assistant Director, Dorothy Main, has been a member of Aberdeen Chorus since l987, and has held both administrative and music roles within the chorus. She has twice served as President and was Section Leader of the Baritone Section for many years before moving across to the same position within the Lead Section five years ago. Recently she has returned to the Baritones and is enjoying singing in that section again.
Dorothy successfully completed the Region 31 Director’s Certification Programme in 2011 and she coaches quartets and choruses. She is a member of the Region’s music faculty, and is also currently a member of Region 31 Regional Management Team serving as the Finance Co-ordinator, and was a previous RMT member serving as the Events Co-ordinator at the end of the 1990s.
Dorothy has sung with three quartets in her Sweet Adelines life – Hopscotch (Baritone) from 1988 to 1996; Quartz (Lead) from 1999 to 2001; and Vocal Zone (Lead) from 2001 to Infinity and Beyond !
She has two Regional Champion Quartet medals (Hopscotch 1992 and Quartz 2001) and twice competed in the International Convention quartet contests.
Alison Soutar joined Aberdeen Chorus in 2014 having previously sung with other choruses, both LABBS and Sweet Adelines, since 2006. Her roles within Aberdeen have included two years on the Management Team covering marketing and bookings and she is also the Lead Section Leader.
Alison successfully completed the Region 31 Director’s Certification Programme in 2017 and was then invited to take up the position as Assistant Director.
Alison is an active quartet singer having sung with several ladies and mixed quartets, she also enjoys taking part in Extreme Quartet and Harmony Brigade events and contests.
